Qigong
Qigong (Chi Kung) can be accurately translated as “skill with energy.” This ancient Taoist art was developed in China centuries ago to help balance life force energy. Qi is the word for the life force or bio-energetic field that surrounds and permeates the body. An optimal balance of Qi is achieved by the proper mix of yin (earth energy) and yang (heaven energy).

Sun Style Taiji (Tai Chi) Form is one of the five orthodox styles originated in China near the turn of the twentieth century by Sun Lutang. It incorporates three Internal martial arts styles: Taijiquan, Xingyiquan, and Baguazhang into a single coherent form.

Trigger Point Massage
Trigger Point Therapy massage technique is a style of deep tissue massage. Trigger Points (TPs) are spots in the muscle fibers that have contracted or clumped up. This occurs due to an injury or disease state in the muscle. The result is that there are small area of muscle tissue where there is not enough oxygen and glucose circulating to allow normal metabolism. To survive, the muscle tissue resorts to anaerobic (without oxygen) forms of respiration and lactic acid builds up.

Trigger Point massage by appointment.

Health & Wellness Coaching
When I work with a client or teach a class on Health and Wellness I incorporate many things. First, however, it is important for an individual to understand what state their health and wellness is in, or at least the state they “believe” it to be in. Then we have to figure out what changes they feel they need to make in order to improve their health and/or wellness. We address aspects of diet, exercise, scientific and psychological education, meditation and self-knowledge. These are just a few of the necessary ingredients to a personal recipe one might employ to work towards optimal health.

HISTORY

Qi Gong is commonly understood as both a clinical healing modality in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and also a movement art. Primarily, I teach the movement aspect of Qigong. Practicing these traditional healing exercises, many of which were developed well before Taoist martial arts, is known to improve balance, circulation, mobility and strength. There is also evidence shown in modern studies that they can improve the immune system as well.

Qigong, also known as moving meditation, was practiced by Taoist monks in the Wu Dong Mountains before Taiji was developed as a martial art. Some say it was a precursor of those martial applications developed later that incorporated Qi Gong into the Taiji forms. There is no doubt, however, that it was an important part of the practices of Taoist monks who understood that stationary meditation was not enough to maintain optimal mental, physical and spiritual health.

My time with Mark studying Taiji and Qigong was profound and even magical. He is a warm, capable and talented teacher. And in addition, he has an absolutely beautiful space to teach in. Thank you Mark! I do appreciate you!

Happy People

Mark Angel has been treating my with deep tissue massage for about a year for the muscle cramping associated with Parkinson’s disease.  His work has been a crucial part of my overall treatment which has meaningfully slowed the progress of the disease.  He works with me 3-4 times a month.  I think he has a unique ability to heal.

I have also been a student of Qigong with Mark Angel for about a year.  He has not only taught me about the physical moves of Qigong, but, just as important, some of the philosophy behind it.  His class has become both a physical and spiritual part of my life.  I highly recommend him as a teacher and spiritual guide.
